Remote Connection (Sonicwall Global VPN)
Follow the steps below to remotely connect to the Hamilton offices.
  • Download the Windows XP/Windows 2000 Sonicwall VPN client here.
  • When the File Download box opens, select 'Save'. Remember where you save the file.
  • When the download completes, locate and extract the ZIP file. Remember where you extract the files.
  • Open the extracted files and find setup.exe, the exe file extension may or may not be displayed.
  • Double click setup.exe, follow instructions through the installation, leaving all options as their default.
  • Start the Sonicwall Global VPN Client. It will either start itself when installation is complete, or you may use the shortcut located at Start > All Programs >Sonicwall Global VPN Client.
  • Important! Allow or Unblock Sonicwall if any Windows Security Alerts, Firewall, or Anti-Virus Alerts occur.
  • When the Client is first launched, a connection wizard will automatically run or go to File > New Connection.
  • Progress through the wizard selecting "Remote Access" when prompted.
  • Enter IP Address or Domain name; enter 205.201.148.20 or 72.77.201.99. Connection Name; enter "Hamilton VPN".
  • Check the box to place a shortcut on your desktop and to enable the connection when started.
  • When the wizard is complete the connection will auto-start. Otherwise you may right mouse-click the Hamilton VPN connection in the white window and select 'Enable'.
  • Once the connection is enabled, you will be prompted for a username and password. Enter your VPN username and password and click Ok. If you do not have a username and password, please see your supervisor to create a request. VPN usernames cannot be issued from this website.
  • You can minimize the Sonicwall window once connected. The Sonicwall will stay connected until you specifically exit the program by going to File > Exit or Right mouse-clicking the icon in the System Tray (near Clock) and selecting 'Exit'.
  • Verify your connection! In your computer System Tray, the area with icons near your clock, there should now be a black square icon with an S on it. Hover your mouse cursor over top of it and it should say "Connections Enabled: 1". Or, you can double click the black icon and in the white window, the Hamilton VPN should say Enabled. If it says anything else, you are NOT connected.
 
Remote Control (Remote Desktop)- requires a remote connection
Follow the steps below to remotely control your office desktop computer while remotely connected.
  • You must be remotely connected to use Remote Desktop, please see Remote Connection above to verify the Sonicwall Global VPN Client is connected.
  • You must know your office computer name. Your computer name is WS, than your first initial and last name. For example Jon Doe's computer would be named WSJDOE. If you are not sure of your computer name or cannot connect trying the described convention please contact your administrator.
  • On Windows XP - Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Remote Desktop Connection. Or,
    Start > All Programs > Accessories > Communications > Remote Desktop Connection. The location of the shortcut will depend on your version of Windows Updates installed on your home/remote computer.
  • On Windows Vista - Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Remote Desktop Connection.
  • Enter your computer name in the space provided and click 'Connect'.
  • A prompt for your username and password will display, enter your network username and password that you use to login to your computer while in the office. Usernames cannot be provided from this website.
  • Once connected your remote desktop will be displayed. Work as you would normally do so at the office. There may be slight delays or slowness depending on your home or remote internet connection speed.
 
Accessing Network Resources - requires a remote connection
Follow the steps below to access Hamilton network resources while remotely connected. You must be remotely connected to access network connections, please see Remote Connection above to verify the Sonicwall Global VPN Client is connected. When connected to the Sonicwall Global VPN Client, your computer will act as if it is in the Hamilton offices, allowing access to all network resources. All of the below resources are available on your home computer while connected to the Global VPN Client. None of the below require you 'Remote Desktop' to your office computer (remotely controlling your office computer).
  • Using Outlook Email
    • Outlook 2000-2003
      • Open Outlook 200x
      • Go to Tools > Accounts
      • Select Add New Account
      • Select MS Exchange Server
      • Enter 'hesi01' as Server name, uncheck 'cache' mode.
      • Enter your windows username as username.
      • Click Next then Finish, your exchange email account will be displayed under List View.
      • Reminder! - You may only open/view this mailbox when remotely connected.
      • If prompted for username and password when opening Outlook, use your normal windows username and password you would use at your desktop in the office.
    • Outlook 2007
      • Open Outlook 2007
      • Go to Tools > Account Settings
      • Click the New button, upper left.
      • Select MS Exchange, Pop3, IMAP, or HTTP option.
      • Click next and enter 'hesi01' as server name, uncheck cache mode.
      • Enter your windows username as username and click next, finish, or close, until all dialogs are closed. Your exchange email account will be displayed under List View.
      • Reminder! - You may only open/view this mailbox when remotely connected.
      • If prompted for username and password when opening Outlook, use your normal windows username and password you would use at your desktop in the office.
  • Accessing network resources
    • G Drive
      • Open Windows Explorer
      • In the address bar type "\\hesi02\aagdrive" (or just click the link while connected to VPN)
      • Click enter If prompted for username and password, use your normal windows username and password you would use to login to your desktop in the office.
    • H Drive
      • Open Windows Explorer
      • In the address bar type "\\hesi02\aahdrive" (or just click the link while connected to VPN)
      • Click enter If prompted for username and password, use your normal windows username and password you would use to login to your desktop in the office.
    • J Drive
      • Open Windows Explorer
      • In the address bar type "\\hesi02\jobs" (or just click the link while connected to VPN)
      • Click enter If prompted for username and password, use your normal windows username and password you would use to login to your desktop in the office.
  • Accessing the Hamilton Internal Website (QA)
    • Open Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox
    • Enter http://www.hamiltontampa.local in the address bar, click GO or Enter.
  • Accessing the Hamilton Intranet
    • Open Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox
    • Enter G:\Intra\index.htm in the address bar, click GO or Enter.
Hamilton Webmail - does not require a remote connection
Follow the steps below to access Hamilton web based email. Web based email is available whether you are remotely connected or not (VPN'd or not).
  • Using Webmail
    • Open Internet Explorer
    • Go to "https://mail.hamiltones.com/exchange", please note the S in https in the beginning.
    • Click Continue to the security warning message.
    • Except and install any Active X controls.
    • Enter your normal windows login username and password you normally enter to login to your computer in the office.
    • Important! - This is your live email account and all changes are immediate and irreversible.
Troubleshooting
Follow the below steps to quickly resolve common problems. Contact your administrator if the problem persists.
  • Remote Connection (Sonicwall Global VPN)
    "I get an error when I launch the Sonicwall Global VPN Client"
    Generally speaking, there are 2 steps you can take with any error that occurs when starting the Sonicwall Global VPN Client.
      Option 1:
    • Locate 'My Computer' (either on your desktop or in the Start menu). Right mouse-click My Computer and select 'Manage' from the menu.
    • A new window will appear, in the left window pane locate 'Services and Applications' and expand it by clicking the plus (+) sign to the left.
    • Underneath 'Services and Applications' locate 'Services' and highlight it by left clicking on it. In the right window pane, locate (alphabetically) 'Sonicwall VPN Client Service', right mouse click Sonicwall VPN Client Service and select 'properties'.
    • The service properties window will appear. Make sure the 'Startup Type' is set to Automatic and the Service Status is 'Started'. Change the drop down menu to 'Automatic' and click 'Apply'. Now click the 'Start' button on the properties page. You should receive a message the service was successfully started. If the service does not start or was not in the services list, please follow Option 2.
      Option 2:
    • Reinstall the Sonicwall Global VPN Client software. To avoid any problems with corrupted software, re-download the client here.
    • After downloaded, locate the ZIP file and extract it's contents.
    • Locate the extracted files and double click setup.exe (the exe may or may not be shown).
    • Leave all options as default and continue through the installation. If it is requested, make sure the host name (server name) is set as 205.201.148.20, and you can name the connection whatever you want, for these notes we assume the connection is named 'Hamilton VPN'.
    • Restart the computer after the installation is complete.
    • After the computer restarts, launch the Sonicwall Client, if it coninues to error please contact your administrator.
    "I am continuously prompted for a username and password even though I have entered it"
    Your username or password for the Sonicwall VPN Client is incorrect. Generally, your username is first name, last initial. Usernames and/or passwords are not provided on this website. If you continue to receive the message please contact your administrator.
    "How can I verify the Sonicwall Global VPN Client has successfully connected?"
    There are 2 steps you can follow to verify the Sonicwall Global VPN Client is connected.
      Option 1:
    • Locate the square black icon in your computer System Tray, next to your clock, usually near the bottom right corner of your monitor, opposite the START button. Hover your mouse cursor over the black icon, a message should appear stating
      "Connection enabled:1". If so the VPN Client has successfully connected.
      Option 2:
    • Click on Start > All Programs > Sonicwall Global VPN Client. A white window should appear. In the white window your named connection should be listed and the status should say "connected". If so the VPN Client has successfully connected.
    "My Hamilton VPN connection status is stuck on 'Connecting/Authenticating/Provisioning' and I cannot connect to the network"

    • Click on Start > All Programs > Sonicwall Global VPN Client. A white window should appear. In the white window your named connection should be listed.
    • Right mouse click the connection and select 'Disable'.
    • Now right mouse click the connection and select 'Enable'.
    • You should get prompted for your username and password. Otherwise please contact your administrator.
  • Remote Control (Remote Desktop)
    "I don't know the name of my office computer"
    In most cases, your office computer will be "ws" - first initial - last name. For example Jon Doe's computer name would be "wsjdoe". If following this convention does not resolve the problem please contact your administrator.
    "I get an error after entering my computer name, username, & password that the computer cannot be found or contacted"
    1. Ensure you have successfully connected to the Sonicwall Global VPN Client. See Remote Connections above.

    2. Ensure your computer name is correct, check the notes above or contact your administrator.
    "I am continuously prompted for my username and/or password"
    Your username and/or password is incorrect. Your username and password are always the same as the username and password used when logging on to your office computer while in the office. Generally, this is first name, last initial, and your normal windows password.

    1. Try prepending your username with "hamiltontampa\", for example Jon Doe would enter "hamiltontampa\jond" as the username. Use your normal windows password and attempt to login.

    2. Contact your administrator.
  • Network Resources
    "I am prompted for a username and password when accessing the G/H/J drive"
    While working with remote resources such as network drives and printers, you will need to authenticate yourself from home. This authentication is in addition to connecting the Sonicwall Gloval VPN Client.

    1. Wait to be prompted for your username. This usually occurs when you first access a shared resrouce such as the G or H drive.

    2. Enter your username and password. Or, enter your domain username and password. Your domain username and password is entered by prepending "hamiltontampa\" to your username when logging in. For example Jon Doe would enter "hamiltontampa\jond" as his username.
    "I am prompted for a username and password when launching outlook email on my home computer"
    While working with remote resources such as email, you will need to authenticate yourself from home. This authentication is in addition to connecting the Sonicwall Gloval VPN Client.

    1. Wait to be prompted for your username. This usually occurs when you first access a shared resrouce such as opening Outlook.

    "I get 'page cannot be displayed' error when accessing www.hamiltontampa.local (QA)"
    Verify your Sonicwall Global VPN Client has successfully connected. See Remote Connections above.
    "When I enter the server name and my username when configuring Outlook, I get an error that 'the server cannot be found' and the New Account setup will not complete"
    Verify your Sonicwall Global VPN Client has successfully connected. See Remote Connections above.
  • Hamilton Webmail
    "I get 'page cannot be displayed' error when accessing webmail"
    1. Verify you are at https://mail.hamiltones.com/exchange

    2. Verify the Sonicwall Global VPN Client IS NOT connected/enabled.
    "I get a security warning when first accessing webmail"
    1. Verify you are at https://mail.hamiltones.com/exchange, if so accept or allow all security messages. To avoid seeing this message in the future, add this site to your 'Trusted Sites' list under Tools > Internet Options > Sites tab > Sites button.
    "I get an Active X warning when accessing webmail"
    1. Verify you are at https://mail.hamiltones.com/exchange, if so accept or allow all security messages. To avoid seeing this message in the future, add this site to your 'Trusted Sites' list under Tools > Internet Options > Sites tab > Sites button.
    "Nothing happens when I try to create new emails or access some buttons"
    The webmail site requires that popups be allowed. Configure your browser to allow all popups from the Hamilton webmail website.
